Herbs are fun to grow. This is due to the fact that they require almost no tending to, yet yield beyond expectations. Of course, this is true only if you grow them outdoors. If you try to grow them indoors however, you may encounter certain problems.
For a start, they start whimpering for attention. In fact, you cannot just set them and forget about them indoors as you can outdoors. If there is a constraint for space and you are looking to grow herbs indoors, here are a few tips.
• Make sure they are planted and placed near a source of light. If you have balconies where there is access to sunlight at least four to six hours a day, well and good. Otherwise you can provide them with grow lights.
• Outdoor herbs need more water as they are prone to dehydration. However, less water in usually enough for herbs grown indoors.
• Feeding your herbs with a foliar spray fertiliser is important, more so if they are indoors. Of course, with indoor gardening you thankfully don’t need a device like the Wolf-Garten Universal Spreader to distribute the fertiliser. Instead once in four weeks with the foliar spray is usually enough.
• It is a good idea to ration your usage of herbs if you are growing them indoors. This is because, as compared to outdoors, indoor herbs do not have the capacity to bounce back and replenish at a fast rate.
• Being very fragile and delicate, it is imperative that you protect your indoor herbs from heavy draughts. Protecting them from extreme weather conditions will ensure they survive and grow well. It is a good idea keeping them away from open windows and near doors during harsh weather conditions.
Interestingly, apart from their culinary value, herbs are also filled with aesthetic and medicinal value. Some of the favorite and popular herbs you can grow indoors include the Coriander, Marjoram, Tarragon, Thyme, Oregano, Chives, Parsley, Mint, etc.
