Almost everyone today wears pressed clothes. An ironing centre is therefore a must in every home. While most of our homes have space for laundry rooms, those who don’t have enough space can consider installing a recessed ironing centre, one that fits snugly between the wall studs. Here are some instructions on how you can have one installed in your home.
The materials you would require include the stud finder, level, a good drill machine along with drill and driver bits, a combination saw, dry wall saw, some 1 ½ dry wall screws, an assortment of shims, finished lumber bits, a good handsaw and of course, a good pair of safety glasses.
Select an ideal location for your ironing centre. A good idea would be to look for allocation that is close to an electrical outlet. The ironing board would stretch out to 42″ when opened so enough space must be available. Locate and mark two adjacent wall studs using the stud finder and make a marking. Use a dry wall saw to make the required cutting then use the finished timber as cleats to support the weight of the ironing cabinet.
Finally, use the drill to make perfect holes so you can have the ironing cabinet mounted. The shims will help keep the ironing board in place. Tighten the screws so your ironing cabinet is well fixed. Have the ironing board mounted on the ironing cabinet and you are all set to iron your clothes.
As far as location in the home is concerned, many find it most practical to build the ironing centre next to their washer and dryer. Getting a washer dryer combination appliance, like the Indesit IWDE12, can also help you save more space in your laundry room; thereby, giving you plenty of room for installing the ironing centre.
